We went on a road-trip adventure last week.
It was quite an adventure indeed. Four days in the car, a different destination each day and a new hotel each night, on paper, our plan sounded amazing. In reality, four days in the car, with 4 children, including twin toddlers, minus any naps, well... let's just say it was 85 parts stressful and 15 parts wonderful.
The first day, we awoke at the crack of dawn and headed North to Staunton, VA. Our destination was The Frontier Culture Museum. This is an amazing spot that I would highly recommend visiting. It is a living history museum showcasing 9 working farms that illustrate what life was like for immigrant populations before they landed in the new world and after. There is a West African farm, a 1600's English farm, a 1700's Irish farm, a 1700's German farm, a 1740's American farm, an 1820's American farm and an 1850's American farm.
Each farm is staffed with interpreters in traditional costume, armed with stories about the people who would have lived during each respective time period. Not only that, but each building is authentic to the time and place, having been deconstructed in Europe or America and reconstructed at the museum. It's really quite amazing.

There you have it, day one.
Minus the brief, hard rain shower, I'd say this portion of our trip was just about perfect.
