Grass stained knees

Sunday afternoon

The weather was amazing today.

Warm sun, clear blue skies, temperatures in the seventies...pretty wonderful for mid November. 

We had planned on an alternate adventure today but decided it might actually be a bit too warm, instead we headed just up the road for some bike riding and lounging in the grass. After we arrived, I realized that we have not taken advantage of this great spot since late last winter, where does the time go?

It has been another week of continued sickness at our house. (unbelievable I know) this time myself and the babies. Turns out an afternoon like this one was just what we needed...

 

 

 

 

The little guys munched on crackers and the resulting mess required shirt removal in an effort to wipe them properly...which is how my babies ended up shirtless in November. I promise it was very warm!

this week

This week felt like a study in contrasts.

The kids and I had some really great moments and we had some really hard, ugly moments as well. I always wonder what contributes to these times, is it them, is it me, could it be the full moon?  

The weather has been really gorgeous and the leaves are particularly brilliant right now.

We walked the other day, filling a bag with the brightest, most glorious specimens we could find. and then we got home and attempted to use them for a project that no one had any interest in doing....which sort of, in a nut shell, sums up what this week felt like for me. 

Focusing on the positive...these little guys continue to be nothing short of delicious.

 

And FINALLY on Thursday, after our third trip to the pediatrician in as many weeks, our two hour visit (yes, that's right two hours start to finish, by myself with all four children) complete with chest x-ray, yielded the pneumonia diagnosis that I was sure Samuel had last week. As annoying as that is, I'm feeling super thankful for the antibiotics that will hopefully banish this illness from his little body.

 

Friday ended with two brothers peacefully painting together in the warm afternoon sunshine. Yay for ending things on a positive note!

We arrived late this week, taking things slow yesterday morning, waiting to see how young Samuel was going to be feeling. We missed circle and craft. Lora led and they made leaf crowns, which some of the kids kept on the whole day, so sweet.

 

 

 

 

 

It ended up being a brilliantly warm and sunny afternoon.

I am so glad we decided to head down and join the gang.

The fresh air, the fellowship of our good friends...it is by far, the most amazing way to start our week!

Poor guy.

Thankfully the fever is finally gone, but a nasty cough remains. 

At least lots of book reading happened in the mean time.

I like to think of this as the schoolwork that does itself. nice.

Halloween was...

Overall, Halloween was a little lack luster this year.

Samuel still had a touch of the fever that had been hanging on for the previous 5 days...

We trick or treated briefly before he ran out of steam. It actually worked out though because we made it home about 5 minutes before the skies opened up. Oh goodness, the rain that fell. It was an absolute deluge. So the boys and I sat on the front porch steps in the rain and munched treats from our big bucket until it was time to blow the jack-o-lantern candles out and head in for bed.

Ya know what? Sitting on the porch with two of my favorite people in the rain, indulging in copious amounts of chocolate...I guess Halloween wasn't so bad after all.
