I thought it would never happen, but we were finally able to plant our fall pansy's this week. Pansy's are my all time favorite flower and their presence on our front porch is the most concrete indicator that my favorite season has arrived.
The weather here has been insane this year. We are experiencing a severe drought, I think the last time I paid attention the newscasters were saying we are down 14 inches from normal. There are rumblings that if we don't start seeing some rain soon, they will be able to predict when our drinking water will run out. That sort of discussion sounds too post-apocalyptic and frightening for me to want to pay any attention to. In addition to the drought, it has been ridiculously warm, in the 90's just last week. So those two factors have prevented us from officially welcoming fall to our doorstep.
Well, yesterday, we took a chance and are banking on the notion that the cooler temperatures this week might actually stick around. So the boys and I busted out the shovels and stocked up on a fresh crop of fall goodness. Dirt. Digging. Watering Can. Mess. Fun.
And finally our front stairs look appropriate for the date. Hurray! Now, if everyone wouldn't mind saying a quick prayer for rain in North Carolina we would be incredibly grateful!
