On the way home from our adventure we stopped in Richmond, Virginia, one of our favorite places, to meet Grandmother and Grandpa Bobby for lunch and visit an amazing destination. Jon and I lived in Richmond well over a decade ago, long before mortgage payments and children and all the details that come with grown up life. It is a spot that holds a special place in our hearts, a wonderful old southern city filled with historical goodness and special memories.
It is also home to one of our all-time favorite spots..... Maymont.
Maymont is a completely magical 100 acre estate located right in the heart of the city. It is by far one of the most unique destinations I have ever seen. There are meadows and pastures filled with cows, sheep and goats. It is also home to buffalo, elk and black bears. There are babbling brooks, giant waterfalls, bamboo forests, Koi ponds, gorgeous formal gardens and a wonderful old mansion.
Countless sun-filled days were spent there when we were young and carefree. While I remember it with great fondness, it was somehow even better this time, maybe because we brought the kids or maybe just because it felt like stepping into a storybook.
If you ever find yourself in Richmond on a warm and sunny afternoon, do yourself a favor and make time to visit. I promise you won't be sorry.
